Spring has finally sprung and you know it’s been a long winter when the sun hurts your eyes and you find your dog searching for beach vacations. This is also the time of the year we do spring cleaning. I know for many including myself cleaning is a four letter word. Have you named your dust bunnies and are seriously considering claiming them on your taxes as dependants? Have no fear, I have 10 quick and easy spring cleaning tips. Let the procrastinators in all of us rejoice.

  1. Go through your medicine cabinet and clear out any old or expired medications you don’t need. Medications like opioids, i.e. prescription pain medication you will need to dispose of properly. Most hospitals have programs to dispose of these medications, just call and ask.

  2. Clean any rugs you have. My personal favorite is ones you can put in the washer machine. BUT before you do that you must beat out all the dirt and dust. This is a very therapeutic process and can really deep clean your soul of any negative energy/emotions. If your rugs can’t be put in the washer, just spot clean with a little bit of carpet cleaner, make sure you spot test first.

  3. Clean your dishwasher. This is probably one of the appliances we all forget about that needs to be clean. And it is super easy, there are multiple products on the market. All you do is put them in the dishwasher and run it. SCORE!

  4. Disinfect your disposal. Simple cut up a lemon, some salt and a few ice cubes. Lemon gets rid of odors, the salt and lemon get rid of residue. Or if that is too much then you can buy disposer care at most grocery stores.

  5. Clean your shower curtains and liners. If they are plastic throw away and get new. If not wash with your towels.

  6. Clean your drains. Like most women, I lose the amount of a Sasquatch every month in hair and those drains can get backed up and backed up fast. Buy some Drano or Liquid Plumber and clear them out.

  7. Does your microwave look like a Pollock painting? Place a large microwave-safe bowl with 1 cup of water and a chopped up lemon, lime or orange or several tablespoons of vinegar insides. Turn it on high for several minutes until the solution boils and the window is steamy, then let it sit to cool for 15 minutes before opening the door. Remove the solution and wipe out the inside and outside with a sponge.

  8. Do you think the stains on your cutting board are permanent? Nope, not a chance. Run the cut side of a lemon over the board to remove food stains and smells. Want extra cleaning power, sprinkle it with salt or baking soda first.

  9. Ceiling fans.  This must be the most ignored area of the home. Takes a few minutes to wipe down with a sponge with soap and water.

  10. Your phone and other remote controls. Just wipe down with a bit of alcohol.  They can hold more germs than your toilet so this a must.
