Yes to Remodel 

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) claims that the Remodeling Market Index (RMI) has held constant at 57 in the fourth quarter of 2013. This is the same level as the third quarter of 2013 and the highest reading since the first quarter of 2004. 

A Remodeling Market Index above 50 means that more people that remodel report market activity is higher than compared to the prior quarter, than report it is lower. The RMI overall average ratings of current remodeling activity that indicate future remodeling.

Reviving Detroit


There’s something in the air in downtown Detroit. Old, run down skyscrapers have new life. People are milling in the streets on lunch breaks. Start ups are moving to the city at a surprising rate. Average Home Improvements in 2013



In 2013 homeowners in the median zip code areas spent a total of $1.9 million to improve their homes.This finding is according to new zip-level estimates developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). So, each house averages about $1,400 within a zip code. 

The estimates are based on a analytical model created by NAHB, using information collected from the HUD/Census Bureau American Housing Survey reports remodeling cost to the number of homes occupied by the owners in the area, the number of those homes built in the 1960's and 1970's, the average home owners' yearly income, and the share of owners that are college educated. The model is applied to the information collected from the Census

Sign of Recovery


For many years banks had a firm hold on the weak housing market. The majority of the sellers either were bankers unloading foreclosed properties or people who couldn't pay their mortgage and needed assistance from their banks. However, today the market is much better and the banks are losing their hold on the housing market.

About 70% of used-home sales are now traditional deals. That's up from 51% a year ago. This doesn't necessarily mean the housing market is fully recovered from the recession.
