New Adventure Park- West Bloomfield

The Detroit suburb of West Bloomfield is the new home of an aerial forest adventure park. The park is an obstacle course in the trees and includes climbing, zip lines and combinations of the challenge bridges and zip lines. The West Bloomfield park will have 10 courses, which are color-coded, with purple being the easiest — being a 12- to 20-foot-high course, and double black diamond being the most difficult — being 65 feet in the air. As one advances through the difficulty levels, the bridges become less stable, requiring more balance, agility, focus and arm strength. What is good is  you do not have to be a bodybuilder to make it through the trails. There is not a correct way of crossing the bridges, however you will have to figure out the most efficient way of getting from platform to platform.  Other than park rules, the only requirement is that your harness be properly worn and you are always attached by one of your carabiners to the life lines on and between each platform.Once the park opens, a well-marked office will be set up in the Jewish Community Center main parking lot. Climbers will check in at the office and be paired up with a staff member, who will go over instructions and walk them to the course, which is about 150 yards away. Staff members are also positioned in the park for assistance.

When you check in and ready to go you’ll see a series of platforms in the trees connected by cable, wood, rope and zip lines to form bridges. Each bridge presents a different challenge of how to get to the next platform. A series of bridges form “aerial trails” throughout the forest.
You will receive a complete safety orientation before your climb. The double-connected, “always-locked-on” climbing system helps keep your climbing harness securely attached to the safety line at all times. The trails are intentionally designed for your self-discovery, making lessons unnecessary.

Adventure Parks have been designing and operating aerial parks since 2008. There are only about 60 parks in the U.S. Adventure Parks are not designed by drilling bolts into the trees to mount structures. Instead, the structures are designed with cables that are wrapped around the vertical boards and trees, using gravity and force against the trees.
