Selecting the Perfect Artwork to Compliment Your Home

Selecting the perfect artwork that will beautifully compliment your home does not have to be an expensive endeavor nor does it have to be a perfect match with your upholstery.
Art should evoke a feeling or stiring within you.  Magnificent paintings are not magnificent due to their price tag.  Art is extremely subjective and the way you feel about it is what makes it priceless.  Forgo the opinions of others as you carefully select pieces for your collection and purchase art for love, rather than based on how a given piece will work in your home.
Many home owners purchase art based on color schemes.  Colors can be limiting and more attention should be paid to texture, shapes, and subjects and the way you connect with a given sculpture or painting.
All art pieces should hold personal value to the owner based on their meaning, filling a home with warmth regardless of it's composition, design, or place of purchase.  Sentimental pieces such as vacation canvases, drawings done by the hand of a friend, or a special souvenir marking a momentous occasion are the perfect pieces which will add class, value, and warmth to your home, which should represent your very essence.
Think beyond the professional aspect of a painting, drawing, or print and go for a display of photographs, decorative plates or ceramics, and even a child's artwork, which can be surprisingly elegant if dispalyed appropriately.  Tapestries, vintage ephemera, nature objects, silhouettes, and collections of your own choosing are great ways to spruce up your home with class, elegance, and color.
Knowing the background of a particular artist is also a great way to make a personal connection with art pieces.  Art is about stories and a home full of stories is a place of authenticity and personality with a touch of creative flare.
Select a piece for which you have developed a particular fondness and let that lead your design flow from room to room.  Elements of that piece, such as theme, color, mood, culture, and style can carry that flow gracefully throughout the rest of your home.
