Penthouse(s) in Tribeca
With the release of Taylor Swift's fifth studio album, “1989,” the singer is leaving her country roots and moving to the Big Apple. Rolling Stone Magazine recently paid Swift a visit to see how she’s settling into her Tribeca penthouse. “There’s my piano,” she told the magazine. “Here’s my pool table that always has cat hair on it. …That’s a door that I walk into.” It would appear Swift is taking her own advice and “keeping the joke on me.” Swift is even opening up her home to die-hard fans, known as “Swifties,” for secret jam sessions.
“Instructed to conceal their shrieks of excitement, they climbed the stairs to the top floor of a Tribeca building, where their suspicions were confirmed,” writes the New York Post about her recent night entertaining fans. “…Then, they headed across the hall and into Swift’s apartment — outfitted with a beautiful piano, books whimsically displayed in birdcages, a signed Oscar de la Renta sketch of Swift’s 2014 Met Gala gown and lots of Le Labo candles, personalized to read ‘Taybeca.'”
The home was previously owned by Peter Jackson, whom is the genius behind the “Lord of the Rings” movies. The penthouse has 7 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and a cozy warehouse-loft feel with exposed brick and overhead beams. There is also a smaller, 3-bedroom unit across the hall, which Swift purchased for her security detail. It is reported that Swift paid $20 million for both units. She also has some high profile neighbors . Her neighbors will include Jay Z and Beyoncé, Gwyneth Paltrow and Bethenny Frankel.
In addition to media interviews and events with fans, Swift is trying to be the Global Welcome Ambassador for New York City. The campaign, entitled "Welcome To New York", is the latest global tourism initiative by NYC & Company. The campaign's slogan was inspired by a song with the same name on her album, which Swift wrote after moving to New York as an tribute to the city's "unparalleled vibrancy," according to a press release.
As Global Welcome Ambassador, Swift demonstrates her love for the city in a assortment of videos and will also perform in Times Square on New Years for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. While some are skeptical, she’s trying to get into the things that New Yorkers like to do, such as watching the Knicks on NBA opening night. She was spotted courtside along with Justin Bieber and Ben Stiller.
Despite owning property all over the country, Swift recently told Time magazine that she always consider Nashville her permanent home: "It's hard to describe why you consider a town your home base, except that when people ask me 'Where's home?' I don't even think before I say 'Nashville'."
She continues: "I spend as much time in Nashville as I can. The cool thing about spending time in Nashville is that no one knows when I'm there. In New York and L.A., there are photographers waiting on the street, and it seems like every errand I run is photographed and documented."
